Intake Interview

Our first appointment will be an 80-minute intake assessment during which I will gather information about the history and current context of your challenges and your support needs. This assessment helps me form diagnostic impressions for mental disorders, recommend evidence-based treatments that have been effective for others with similar challenges and goals, and collaborate on a treatment plan.

Individual Therapy

I strive to support your growth thorough a collaborative and compassionate approach to therapy. By exploring your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours no longer serving you, and uncovering your strengths and resources, we will develop personalized treatment targets. Some common goals:

  • increasing mindfulness and compassion for self and others

  • reducing unwanted emotions (e.g., sadness, anxiety, anger)

  • exploring identity and support navigating the impact of minority stress on wellbeing

  • increasing values-congruent behaviours and changing behaviours that may be keeping you stuck (e.g., avoidance, masking emotions, self-destructive behaviours, self-criticism, perfectionism)

  • increasing flexible thinking

  • improving relationships and communication skills

  • reducing loneliness

  • grieving traumatic invalidation and systemic oppression

Skills Classes

I offer RODBT and DBT skills training classes designed to help you enhance your skills for mindfulness, surviving distressing moments, managing emotions, and improving relationships in a supportive learning environment. Skills class may be a recommended part of your treatment plan, depending on your needs and goals. Contact me to learn more about class availability.

What happens in therapy?

Therapy is an active practice.

My therapy framework combines an emotion focus and behavioural approach. We will be attending to the emotions you are experiencing to learn more from them, and we will be completing active practices to try approaching emotions and their causes in different ways. I will ask you to try strategies in our meetings and to continue practicing strategies in your life in between our meetings.
